For the coming six weeks croy nielsen will be hosting Flaca: an independent project space situated in London's East End. Founded in 2003 by artist Tom Humphreys, Flaca has been the platform for a comprehensive program of group- and solo exhibitions featuring both London-based and international artists. The projects include publications, such as the Flaca Book-series, and often the exhibitions are developed in collaboration with other curators. The program is mainly concentrated on young artists, but in 2005 Flaca presented the first UK retrospective of the legendary American artist Prophet Royal Robertson (1936-1997).
For the show at croy nielsen, Tom Humphreys has invited four artists under the title 'One Size Youth', which is the description found on the size label inside brightly coloured stretchy Jamaica-style T-shirts. Read out of context it has an inference of universality and shared ideology. Loosely and openly developed, the exhibition was born from the question of how one might form a youth movement, and it brings together four artists that share certain sensibilities and direction.

Michele Horrigan / A Very Reliable Performer

Ritter & Staiff present A Very Reliable Performer, new video and photographic artworks by Irish artist Michele Horrigan.
A very reliable performer refers to a postcard caption of Geyser, an active hot water spring in Iceland where Horrigan was resident earlier this year.
Playing with expectations of touristic consumption and fulfilment, Horrigan sets up a theatrical relationship with Geyser. Her video loop constantly waits for the spring to erupt into the sky. An accompanying photograph offers a taster to keep the onlooker intrigued; yet their interest is never seemingly rewarded with a moment of climax.
In a second video and photographic installation, Hooper Swan, ideas of perception and disillusionment are again explored. The beauty and grace of the Hooper Swan in a still image is broken down by a video piece of the swan's shrill sound as it feeds and fights amongst ducks and seagulls.
Horrigan's double-takes seem to scratch on the edge of ideas of artistic representation, simultaneously presenting the lures and pitfalls of preconceptions of images.

Adrian Williams und Tris Vonna-Michell am 6. September 2006 im >>raum für kultur<<>>raum für kultur<<>>raum für Kultur>> wurde eine Person gefunden, die Nathaniel von Harbou verkörpert und seine eigenen Gedichte vorträgt.
Das Projekt von Tris Vonna-Michell mit dem Titel „Leipzig Calendar Works“ entstand im Zeitraum vom 1. April bis 1. Mai 2005 in einem Zimmer eines Plattenbaus in Leipzig. Vonna-Michell beschäftigte sich mit Methoden des Dokumentierens von (persönlicher) Geschichte mit der Intention, bestimmte Momente seines autobiographischen Hintergrunds und seiner bildhaften Erinnerungen daran zu hinterfragen. In einem Akt der Dekonstruktion zerschnitt er Fotografien aus seinem persönlichen Archiv und verfasste Tagebuchnotizen. Eine Kamera zeichnete diesen Vorgang wiederum täglich auf, so dass ein 17 Minuten langes Video und eine Textarbeit entstanden sind. Ein Monolog wird die Arbeit live vor dem Publikum vervollständigen.
Zu den Arbeiten erschien eine begleitende Publikation mit Texten von Adrian Williams, Tris Vonna-Michell
und einem Nachwort von Nikola Dietrich.
