"Come in, friends, the house is yours!" thematizes processes of
community formation and democratic codetermination. The central focus
is on various methods and strategies by means of which social
identification and participation are conveyed. These include concrete
mechanisms such as
participatory procedures, political processes of voting or pedagogical
approaches, visual forms or symbols which express a sense of
community. The artistic media and formats extend from drawings,
photographs and films past spatial installations and sculptures all
the way to actions and
workshops.

The exhibition is taking place in cooperation with the Künstlerhaus
Stuttgart, the film series (curated by Florian Wüst) with the
Kinemathek Karlsruhe.

A Public Inducing: "If I choose you would you choose me" / Frankfurter Kunstverein

Frankfurter Kunstverein is pleased to announce the talk: A Public
Inducing: "If I choose you would you choose me?" with Jonathan Carroll
and Achim Lengerer on Thursday, 16th April at 7 pm.

A Public Inducing: "If I choose you would you choose me?"

with Jonathan Carroll, Curator and Achim Lengerer, Artist
Thursday, 16th April, 7 pm

Curator Jonathan Carroll and Artist Achim Lengerer invite you to a
presentation where both residents of the "Deutsche Börse Residency
Program" at Frankfurter Kunstverein will induce information on their
respective practises for the benefit of the invited audience. Mimicing
the experience of an artist being invited to participate in a group
exhibition, Carroll and Lengerer have been brought together by being
chosen by a third party to spend a short period living together in the
residency at the Kunstverein. With this experience in mind , both the
curator from Ireland and the artist from Germany/Netherlands have
chosen to remain ignorant of each others working lives in order to
allow this discovery to happen while presenting to a live audience.
Both will interview and present the other and show much of the work
they have been involved in.

Jonathan Caroll is the assistant curator of Project Arts Centre in
Dublin and curator of Visual Arts for The St. Patrick's Festival there
and a member of the panel of curators for the Goethe-Institut Irland.
He is a graduate of Art History (University College Dublin), Cultural
Management (Instituto Universitario Ortega Gasset, Madrid) and
Curating Contemporary Art (Royal College of Art, London). He has
lectured on curating in NCAD, IADT and DIT fine art courses in Dublin.
Recent exhibitions include "The Flight of the Dodo" for Project Arts
Centre, Dublin, and "Gavin O'Curry, The Lost American/ Crying in the
Chapel" for The Goethe- Institut Irland and Migrations for the 2008
St. Patrick's Festival.

Achim Lengerer was educated at the Academy for Film and TV, FAMU,
Prague, the Städelschule, Frankfurt and the SLADE School of Fine Arts,
London. His work deals with performative aspects of language and
speech as well as the transformation of language into spatial
constellations within an exhibition context. Lengerer is founder of
the labelfuerproduktion/lfp and co-founder of the freitagsküche
(Berlin and Frankfurt am Main). His labelfuerproduktion/lfp is an art
project disguised in the format of a legal institution, which puts
into action exhibitions and events with varying collaborators, by
shifting codified social roles of the "artist at work". With the
labelfuerproduktion Lengerer made various shows including "there have
to be many and they do(n't) need to be reconciled with one another" at
the Kunstverein Braunschweig. Together with the Israeli artist Dani
Gal he exhibited and performed as voiceoverhead. In 2006/07 Lengerer
was a fine art researcher at the Jan van Eyck Academie, NL. Lengerer
is about to open the showroom and instant publishing house
"Scriptings" in Amsterdam.

The event will be held in English.
Entrance is free.
Venue: Frankfurter Kunstverein, Residency, Meeting point: entrance hall
