Jon Reed's "The Wiggins" Concert

NoMad invite you all to:
Jon Reed's "The Wiggins" Concert

30th JULY 8PM
at Project-Display NoMad at Dom/Roemer U Bahn Station.

http://nomadwindow.wordpress.com/

Jon Read is an artist and a musician. With his band, the Wiggins, he makes the kind of music that they’ll play on oldies stations fifty years from now after the plug gets pulled, the blood gets spilled, the power returns, and people get back to partying like they party right now. The Wiggins’ music is a loud, hissing mix of idiosyncratic garage and punk, surf-rock, blues, and country run deep with blown-out bass lines taken from carny rides and gangster rap, burnt-out guitar licks, and a voice coming from somewhere between Son House and a juvenile delinquent getting whipped with a fraying wire. Think Big Black, Pere Ubu, Billy Childish, and Devo. Damaged stuff: you can wreck your brain on it. He’s a surly entertainer, known for quitting songs midway, cutting sets in half, leaving his audiences begging for more in a storm of lacerating guitar feedback. Despite this abuse, or because of it, people go wild at Wiggins’ shows. They jack their backs and flout their inhibitions.- Tex Kershcen, Indian Jewelry

(4e étage).

Casino Luxembourg - Forum d'art contemporain is pleased to invite you to the opening of the exhibition other possible worlds - dictionary in space realised in the framework of the Art Workshop on Friday 29 July 2011 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Centre Emile Hamilius (4th floor).

EXPOSITION | EXHIBITION other possible worlds - dictionary in space

Artistes / Artists
Guillaume Aubry, Béatrice Balcou, Nayari Castillo, Hanna Husberg, Yota Ioannidou, Verica Kovacevska, Kuo-Wei Lin, Laura McLean, Ugochukwu-Smooth Nzewi, Beto Shwafaty.

Exposition / Exhibition : 30. & 31.07.2011

Gathered around the theme of other possible worlds - dictionary in space, ten international artists participated in this year's Art Workshop, a residency programme organised by Casino Luxembourg in collaboration with Université du Luxembourg.

The dictionary in space aims at opening a space for multiple projects from various parts of the world to propose and test out other realities of life and other "Weltvorstellungen" (world visions). With this collection of ideas, terminologies, models, projects, kits and modes of acting, the participating artists strive to develop fields of references, other ways of creating orders.

Together with the workshop leaders Dorothee Albrecht, Berit Fischer and Paul di Felice, the artists participated during their two week stay in think tank discussions and lectures; an exhibition presenting the works of art realised on the spot ends the residency. The Centre Emile Hamilius, generously provided by the City of Luxembourg, hosts the exhibition that is realised in collaboration with IUEOA asbl.

VANISH

VANISH SHOWS

An night of screenings
with the Video Work „Herbarium of Pure Externality" (2010)
by Erik Lavesson
and a documentary „Mädchen am Sonntag" (2005)
by RP Kahl.

'Cladows' - Green Room - Weltkulturen Labor - Thursday 7/7/11 @ 7pm

CLADOWS

Opening Thursday, 7th July 2011, 7pm

A two-part exhibition With Tim Furey, Oliver Heinzenberger, Theresa Kampmeier, Danny Kerschen, Tonio Kröner, Dana Munro, Ruairiadh O'Connell, Eric Sidner

Welkulturen Labor, Schaumainkai 37
Exhibition opening hours:
Thursday-Sunday 12-6pm or by appointment. Infos under 069 212 31003 / 45115.

1st Part: 8th July - 7th August 2011
2nd Part: 16thAugust - 4th September 2011

CLADOWS – a neologism for clay and shadows – is the first of a two part exhibition curated by artist Shane Munro in the Green Room of the Weltkulturen Labor at Schaumainkai 37.

Eight international artists connected through their studies at the Staedelschule and a previous art event (‘Amateur Night’, March 2011, The Guesthouse, Cork, Ireland) undertake an exploration of future ethnography. Visiting the stores of the Weltkulturen Museum, they take their cue from Javanese and Balinese shadow puppets and produce an exhibition structure and collective artwork, CLADOWS, based on the museum’s collections.

CLADOWS makes use of clay, double-sided opaque screens, and different light sources. Shadows from art works specially produced for the exhibition are cast onto both sides of the screens. These shadows permeate the screens, cross-referencing one another. Some shadows change with the passing of the day. CLADOWS reinterprets the original source of the shadow play, casting a different light onto the concept of an ethnographic exhibition at the Weltkulturen Museum.

Film documentation of the exhibition will form the basis for the second part of the show to open on 16th August. Whereas the first part functions as the casting for the film, the second will be its screening. Finally, the exhibition concept and the film will be gifted as artworks to the Weltkulturen Museum. They may be used as a physical structure to throw shadows from objects in its collection into the future.

Timothy Furey, 1981, Cork, Ireland
Oliver Heinzenberger, 1976, Bridgend, Wales
Theresa Kampmeier, 1991, Arnsberg, Germany

The Green Room is a project space in the Weltkulturen Labor curated by artist Shane Munro. It takes its cue from special effects studios and defines the place where performers spend their final minutes before they go on stage. Artists invited to the Green Room are asked to respond to the collections of the Museum.
