The dark city embraces a void and countless sky. Streets of isolation wind down to the ice cold river in oppressive silence. Negative emanations call through dark fog. Descending into utter despair, wandering the wilderness of eternal misery. The failure of human nature, failure of mother nature. Desolate winter, as twilight falls where cold and darkness meet- a building covered in thorns. Thinking back on a year of Decembers. Below the gloomy moon's silhouette, actions are carried out in the trails that lead to perdition. Webs made of sinister plots, lobotomized, tortured thoughts. Subconscious, now revealed, has nowhere to hide.

Destructive shadows made in a graven image of the self.
Earth's last picture: hate in the eye of the beholder.

Jochem Hendricks Buchpräsentation 1.10.

Zukunft der Bilder: Die Aktivierung der Bilder im Revolutionären Archiv. Buchvorstellung und Künstlergespräch mit Jochem Hendricks und Doris Krystof, Kuratorin Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen

01. Oktober 2015, 19 Uhr
F3, Schmela Haus
Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Düsseldorf
Eintritt frei. Leider keine Reservierungen.

Galerie Parisa Kind is excited to announce Live in Yours, Play in Ours an exhibition of new work by Hannah Levy — her first solo show in the gallery's main space, taking place from 25 September to 25 October 2015.

A silicone safety chain strung throughout the space, held up by cast Venus Embrace razor holders—meters of pink bodily rope, pinched, stuck, and contorted by holders made for female clientele designed to mimic female anatomy—ties together a body of seven new works. These throbbing croissants, hairy poles, and masturbatory earbuds, traffic in a kind of confused erotics, poking fun at the grotesque experience that is having a body.

There is a stark punctuality in Levy's use of materials, a slickness and play with space alongside a fling with branded body products: shiny metal tubing, silicone, and plastic, on the one hand, coupled with sand and hair, on the other, produce an undercurrent to the work that wants to simultaneously cleanse you and get you dirty. Marked by the artist's synthesized contemporary understanding of self care, Levy's lewd leanings, sterile fantasies, and comically hairy bikini lines craft a playfulness that provokes while it instructs.

Levy's new work comes to grips with its sexual inclinations, its desires, its wants and needs, its fetishes, how it wants it, and when, and from whom, and with whom, and where, and for how long.

Hannah Levy was born 1991 in New York and lives and works in Frankfurt/Main. She received her BFA at Cornell University, Ithaca/New York in 2013 and is currently studying at Städelschule Frankfurt. Past solo exhibitions include "Basic Essentials", Allen and Eldridge at James Fuentes Gallery (New York) and "Vegetative State," at Deuxième Bureau/Galerie Parisa Kind in 2014. Levy's work will be included in the group show "Parked Like Serious Oysters - Graduates of the Städelschule Frankfurt" which opens in October at Museum Für Moderne Kunst Frankfurt.

"Each blade of grass has its spot on earth whence it draws its life, its strength; and so is man rooted to the land from which he draws his faith together with his life." - Joseph Conrad

In response to parasitic attack, plants undergo a series of metabolic and biochemical reaction pathways that will enact defensive response. This rivalry circumstance is know as "Niche Displacement"[1]. An example of this is that an parasitic invasion causes an increase in the jasmonic acid(JA)- insensitive and modifies defense pathways independent of salicylic acid(SA) biosynthesis, beyond that the microbiologic and chemical reactions evoked by this rivalry circumstance lead to an overproduction of Vitamin A,B,C as well as complex, long chained amino acids. Some organisms have evolved those chemical weapons as effective deterrents against predation. It is most common in insects but also in plants. Herba-4 uses this mechanisms by turning proteins and vitamins into a form of toxin. Pathways produce chemicals that will induce defensive responses, such as the production of chemicals or defensive molecules, vitamins and proteins to fight off the attack. Different biochemical pathways are activated by different parasites. In general, there are two types of responses that can be activated by the pathways. Plants can either initiate a specific or non-specific response. Specific responses involve gene-gene recognition of the plant and parasite. This can be mediated by the ability of the plant’s cell receptors recognizing and binding molecules that are located on the cell surface of parasites.

The production of HERBA-4 uses those mechanisms that are known as principles of "Niche Displacement". As a result a product with a high concentration of vitamins, proteins and long-chained amino acids is guaranteed.

CAUTION: Symptoms of Herba-4 overdoses include slow breathing, heart rate and pulse. The overdoses can also cause pinpoint pupils, and blue lips and nails due to low levels oxygen in the blood as well as muscle spasms, seizures and decreased consciousness. A person experiencing an Herba-4 overdose usually will not wake up even if their name is called or if they are shaken vigorously.

Wir gehen also irgendwann Samstagvormittag fischen.

Composed by Oona von Maydell

While I was diving in the ocean, close to south africa, the sea keeps on flushing the warm water on my body. The salty water carrys my so I started to dream about some jellyfishes; unfortunately I absorb to much water and something startet to drawn me down. Reasonably I fall in a mindless state, I found myself surrounded with seahorses and jellyfishes.

I was terrified: if they overtake this living ocean, and when all left in the ocean is them, they become our main source of food.

Luckily some old fisher crosses in situ on his traditional fishing boat from Senegal. Carried my unconscious body out of the water and brought me back to the beach were I was living in a cabbin.

Some days after recovery, I decided to ask the swedish artist Sam Siwe, who is living and working in Berlin, to be one of two artist I would like to invite to Garret Grimore, beeing part of my residency invitation.

In the following part, Nora Schultz addresses some lines about Sam Siwe´s technical interventions to us.

It’s been a known fact since the 1970s that the sea slug Elysia chlorotica is able to steal and inhabit the genes of the food it eats, incorporating it into its chromosomes.

We’ve all seen these pictures of ever-growing, everlasting sea slugs covering ocean floors that morph their bodies into algae-like formations. When the algae dies out, they can still live on photosynthesis, a skill that was part of the algae’s genetic ability that they had taken over, and they can go on living on nothing but light for months. Then, when pollution increased in the oceans and the air, and light was reduced to a minimum, we could see them almost instantly changing track, eating and incorporating our rubbish that now floated over the seas and that had killed the algae, but not the slugs, who even managed to feed their chromosomes with the genes and informational energy of the new conqueror. Where flower-like bulbs and tentacles once grew out of their sluggy bodies, weird but still natural looking in a way, now smudgy “plastic” bags grow out of them, and they use them like wings underwater. Slimy tin can-looking buildings hang on them like slightly misproportioned kangaroo pouches in which they carry their slug babies before they grow into their own and other wasted dimensions. And when even waste lost its physicality, leaving behind space junk and, likewise, junkspace to become an overall condition, they even adapted to this.

In a time beyond numbers, beyond the countable, the material becomes its own creator, using the artist to help speed up its evolution instead of other way around. These knot-like creatures here behave like elements. Fluid in their appearance, you couldn’t call them a physical body, whereas when they have something to hold on to, they become physical and resistant. The nourishing process is vice-versa. Taking energy from the light source they find, they simultaneously are the very element that provides it. And when the knot form is still confusing our view, going in chaotic spirals up and down, the actual object of interest is the light itself, or rather the electric that we should try to get into focus because meanwhile these jellies shut down the human power plants to build their own invisible energy factories in so-called art studios where vegetables become their spines and the tentacles they’ve developed connect them to their new ground, absorbing its informational consistency in order to develop legs with all their needed features.

Sam Siwe is one of these artists acting as a co-organism of the jellies. While you may still think that the artist tries to express himself here, in fact it’s the enhanced jellies who took advantage of his skills, making him build the infrastructure and their new factories where they can reproduce themselves in a new and different matter. They make him tap the wires, hack the systems, put sticky stuff on a thin skin to create a body.

This body is nice and weird enough to be considered as an art object, to become a possible sculptural edition, perhaps a series, if not a mass product flooding the art world rapidly. While spreading and flooding, the jellies can always hide behind Sam. Sam is their camouflage, an agent and worker in their production chain and maybe nothing but a tentacle growing out of their system.

The sculpture is a conditional device, a receiver for a new condition the jelly quickly adapts to, and while looking at it, the whole art world might be absorbed just to raise up soon as a whole new environment, with a mind beyond jelly, a body beyond elementary, and you need more than one kangaroo pouch in your adventure vest to be prepared for this condition.
