Ed Atkins
A reading from A Primer For Cadavers
Thursday 6th April 6pm
Kunsthall Oslo - Rostockgata 2-4
Free admission

One of the most widely celebrated artists of his generation, Ed Atkins makes videos, draws, and writes. Atkins’ writing adopts a dazzling array of voices: medical taxomy, Beckettian dialogue, malignant magical incantation, comment thread rant, tender song… He recently published A Primer for Cadavers, his first collection of writing, which brings together a selection of his texts from 2010 to 2016.

For this event, Atkins will read extracts from A Primer… along with some other recent texts. Afterwards Atkins will be in conversation with Mike Sperlinger (Professor of Writing & Theory at Kunstakademiet Oslo) about his writing, his influences and the relationship of text to artwork.

“How can cadavers seem so alive, speak so eloquently? Atkins’ prose is urgent, sometimes even breathless, seeming to stumble over its own material conditions. His is a unique voice that captures a truly embodied intelligence.”
— David Joselit, author of After Art

Ed Atkins’ recent solo presentations include MMK Frankfurt; Castello di Rivoli, Turin; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; The Kitchen, NYC; SMK Copenhagen. Forthcoming projects include the Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin, The Armory, NYC.
