This year‘s Marielies-Hess-Art-Prize recipient, Laura J. Padgett, is an American artist who works mainly in the media of photography and lm. In her work, the artist explores unoccupied spaces, both real and imaginary, to reveal truths that are often overlooked. Like her subject, her work itself inhabits the spaces between photographic storytelling and installation, between language and image, between history and current affairs. While she uses photographic media the results are always more than photographic objects. For this exhibition, she focuses on places going through change, architectural structures, and shifts in our understanding of the world of images and society.

Like her theme, her works occupy spaces between photographic narrative and installation, between language and image, between history and contemporary history. Although they use photographic media, the results are always more than photographic objects. Works from recent years, as well as works newly produced for this exhibition, are exhibited.
